Preface :

I wasn’t but then this Friday morning came.

The front school entrance was locked, which would have been fine but no one was at their desk like they were suppose to be, ready to open the doors - the lights weren’t even on.

No sight, no care. - nothing new.

As much as I wish I can say I’m thrilled to be back in college, back in class. I can’t help to think every time I step foot, sit through another movie, another youtube video BUT. to ask myself, what am I doing ? Is this real? And my all-time favorite, WHERE IS MY MONEY GOING !

It can’t be the teachers, being that they’ve been having the same out-of-date teachers for years, some even teaching 4 to 5 different classes having no absolute REAL background experience of the subject, or the head fashion advisors, for she is either not there, out to lunch or in a "meeting". It can’t be to improve the fashion program for there is no real program to begin with for it is as old as the person who runs it -_- . It can’t be to the career advisors who’s primary duty/responsibility is to connect us with the top related jobs in our field. Which seemingly the only thing they can come up with these days is retail at Lincoln as a sales associate, front desk at some hotel or something else that doesn’t best align with any students real career goals.

In all the time have been here ( 4 years and counting) everything has gotten worse. The one thing that has upgraded I would say is the library hours but that’s all I got.

Present :

As I sit in on my Styling II, the Met Gala: First Monday in May playing in the background, I discreetly listen in on pure fashion ignorance both from teacher and student asking the most redundant questions I've heard in a while. I can’t help but to be in such awe of the whole ordeal bringing me back to my earlier inquiries, proving and reassuring me that this sh*t is as much of a joke as the people in it !!! (And the system … what system ?) Don't get me wrong, while the met gala is of relevance I just don’t believe that the little time we have should be spent on such a low to no priority activity when talking about Styling II.

Frankly I can go on forever but today was extra, today was the day I just had to share the injustice of this finessing ass program/school.

Getting To The Point :

With all that ranting, I will like to leave on a more positive wave. If you are thinking about going to a fashion school to study the art or anything creative, be wise. Don’t let the flat screens, pretty projects and school sales men or women sale you a dream about "creating tomorrow" they themselves don’t believe. Be cautious, be smart and do your research. Don’t fall victim to the greed of any institution. Take your time to think and evaluate. Remember you do have to pay for this, eventually, so spend your borrowed money or parents, wisely. And remember, this is just a means to an end. Not one that will guarantee a thing - that’s on you.

And just because you have colleges and universities doesn’t mean you have education.
